“I am the monster that breathing men would kill. I am Dracula.”
Inspired by Bram Stoker’s novel, Coppola unleashed his version of the most famous vampire onto the world in 1992. In this classic film, Count Dracula comes to England in 1897. There he tries to seduce his barrister Jonathan Harker’s fiancée Mina Murray, because he believes she is the reincarnation of his lost love. In the process he inflicts havoc on the foreign land even though his journey is more inspired by romance than by bloodlust.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a gorgeous, stylized adaptation, full of visual tricks. The old school cinematic techniques won the film three academy awards and made it into a unique piece of film history.
